Wines and food of Chile
This event is jointly hosted by Eduardo Chadwick and Phil Tuck
Eduardo is proprietor of both Caliterra and Errazuriz. He has joined forces with Robert Mondavi (whose wine empire started in California) at Caliterra whilst Errazuriz is still family owned. On visiting Errazuriz in February 2001 we met up with Eduardo afterwards in Santiago de Chile for Pisco sour. Phil Garratt of Winos, George Street, Oldham turned the discussion towards beer and the conversation went something like this.
PG ?Eduardo, is there any decent beer in Chile, all I?ve had so far gassy lager??
EC ?Yes there is, have you tried Austral??
PG ?Yes we had it at lunch today, it has very little taste and is pretty much like the rest.?
EC ?I am sorry you didn?t like it, I?ll pass on your comments to my head brewer.?
Faux pas Phillip!
Phil Tuck, Master of Wine, acts as consultant to the wine makers from each estate on their vinification and farming techniques, from pruning the vines to blending. During this dinner we will concentrate more on the drinking of wine and will hopefully have an insight into life in Chile.
Dinner is priced at ?52.50 including all wines.

Taittinger dinner
Dinner with champagne from this Grand Marque Champagne House
We first visited Taittinger, Reims in 1998, at this visit we were treated to a tour of the cellars, starting and finishing with a glass or two of Comte. We then moved to their Chateau just north of Epernay on a glorious sunny afternoon. More Comte on the lawn preceded a private lunch for our little gang of 5, cooked by a Michelin starred chef who had driven down from Reims, followed by a drop more Comte. Taittinger certainly know how to entertain!
The dinner this evening will not be served in a Chateau but a pub, being Lydgate it will probably not be all that sunny, our cellar has the pungent aroma of malt and hops and we do not have a Michelin star.
However the latest vintage of Comte tastes as good in a pub as it does anywhere in France, John can generally knock up a hearty plate of nosh and the dinner will be hosted by Justin Llewellyn, ?PR Brand Ambassador for Taittinger? being his official title. He has an interesting background, being son to one of the great inventors of our time, in film that is. His late father was the longest serving actor in the Bond films and as Q saw more of Moneypenny than any of the many 007?s!
The makings of an interesting evening me thinks
